There was a period of quite a few years where Christmas was...meh.

This year, the wife and I both felt more Christmas spirit than in a long, long time. Being out here in Idaho has changed our lives a lot.

Kids are all grown up here, grandsons were in AZ for Christmas, oldest will be back tomorrow, the youngest (granddaughter) is only 3 months old so next year should be a bit different.

Our youngest is 25 and graduating with a BS in Biomedical Engineering in May, and her fiance is in the PhD program in Mechanical Engineering.

Our oldest will be 29 in the spring and still...searching. She's always been a hard worker, two jobs at a time during college, and has two degrees. But, she hasn't found the career she wants. Obviously, she needs to buckle down and make a choice.

I'd be a lot happier if she were happier, though.

The youngest is the one my wife and I are assuming will be supporting us in our old age.

The oldest is coming out for a visit in about two weeks. Believe it or not, we've set it up as a total surprise for my wife. She's gonna be blown away. And, I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity for some good conversation over some nice craft beers.

Believe it or not, my daughter's much more of an expert than I am!
