Sunny and a balmy 18*, wasn't bad at all puttin snow tires on the daughter's car. 'Cept I cuddn't find my deepwell impact sockets, how does sumptin like that disappear? Used a regular deepwell to get em started, then a standard impact fit just barely to torque em down. I hate when I can't find a tool, seems to be happening a lot more lately.
I don't worry about cam tensioners on my EVO.
About everthing I read about em just makes me like the old Glide better. Harley shoulda bumped the sporty motor up to 2000cc, gear cams, 2 holes to fill, no comp... just makes me tingle thinkin about it.
Lookin at doin the gear cam conversion this winter. What ya'all think of this kit? http://www.jpcycles.com/product/420-470 Not looking for a big increase in power.... just don't want to worry about the cam tensioners ever again.

the EVO is a great motor, no doubt. the TC has a ton of potentional, once you fix the MoCo's short comings. I inparticurly like the 88 for it's short stroke. I grew up on old 60s hotrods. The EVO is great, but done right, the TC is a better design.
gamble that's a good setup but three things :
1) you can't have very much crank runout with gear drive cams
2) gear drive cams are noisy and take getting used too
3) J&P's Gold Club prices are higher than anybody out there , shop around , you can beat that price easily

I installed gear Drives back in Jan '11 at 81,000 miles ('00 S/E Road Glide,) and in all the reading I did you either get a whine (gears too tight,) or a mild tick (a bit loose.) Never even measured the run out because it was a '99 to '02 era motor.
I do have the mild tick, but only at idle and the motor is a quiet Twin Cam compared to others I've heard other than that.
The bike just passed 147,000 miles this past month and I still don't have a reason to crack open the cam chest cover.
(I paid about $565 for the complete kit. North Shore Cycles, NY via E Bay.)

Cams and all? Sweet... gonna have to talk with my Indy and see what he thinks. The new oil pump would definently be nice, but wondering if the new cam plate is really needed, or just overkill.

And my oil pump and plate are still the original OEM from the Factory. Never has been an issue. The only extra was paying my Indy $25.00 to press the cam gears on for me. I bought the puller/installer on EBay for like $100 and sold it right back on Ebay for almost even money too.
Have an Aunt and Uncle about 20 miles outside of Mobile, haven't seen them in 15 years or more and they're getting up there in age, thinkin' of flyin' down to see them for a few days this winter. just thinkin' if you were close, I'd buy ya a beer or two!
