While this one is kinda fun, I'd really recommend a newer 750cc model. Supposedly every year gets a little better from about 2003, and the 07's were supposed to be the biggest single year improvement.
The kickstarter is a pita to me; like old boxers, you kick away from the bike, and I can't get a good grip on it with my big foot. All the 750s have electric start, and some of the later 650s. The carbs on mine stick straight out behind the jugs, and I can barely get my right foot on the peg; have to move my foot off the peg to reach the brake pedal. The 750's have up tilted carbs with more foot room; new ones have FI.
I thought the brakes were almost useless till I adjusted the front one, now it's almost ok - it doesn't have enough grunt to lock the wheel. I'll be taking the wheels off and tweaking the exposed brakes, might get them better, but the newer ones with disk brakes (latest have Bembo) have to be better.
The electrics... suck on older ones. I tried a higher wattage sealed beam headlight, not even halogen, and when I hit high beam, the alternator actually groaned. I'll fix this one up, play with it next summer, but I'll keep watching for a newer one I could afford. I occasionally see ads for just as cheap or cheaper Japanese bikes with add on sidecars, but don't want to risk the problems or safety that could come with someone else's conversion. That's the good thing about Urals, they're time tested under harsh conditions to hold up.

Browning 50? I got to play with one a couple or three times, awesome. Fun to bounce tracers off puddles, bet most folks would never think they'd do that. I've put more rounds through M60's than everything else I've fired combined. Which pond is it out there?
