Not the same around here. Big companies are getting rid of unions and the trend seems to be that they are hiring temps on 9 month contracts. They are paid minimum wage (or close to it) no holidays, no benefits. A day before the 9 month contract is up (and they would have to give them benefits and holidays) they are laid off for a day or two and rehired under a new contract.
I worked for a company that got rid of the union - immediate cut in all benefits, including losing half of vacation, and nearly a 30% paycut. The union haters found out why they had a union in the first place...
