I can imagine how that made you feel. Don't know what I'd have done back in my early riding days if I'd gotten sick or had a major "can't fix it beside the road" breakdown. Especially on a couple long trips to a different Army base on the Honda 305, those 60's Hondas didn't have the reliability they're known for today. Worst it ever did to me was just a busted chain, back then carried an extra link with an extra master, managed to fix it on the road. You're lucky you had the sons to help, that could've been way worse.

Just hadda dormant brain cell wake up, remembered something from those days, but it was a car, not bike. Steering got funny, tire started squealing, jacked it up and saw a tie rod coming loose. Long way from anywhere I was familiar with, but I had some wrenchs, so I kinda eyeballed the alignment and tightened it down. Sure wore out one of the front tires quick, wasn't long after I got a guy in a small town gas station to throw on a fairly well used tire for 5 bucks, think it was 5 bucks anyway. That was my gas money, too, darn near empty when I got home. Let's not mention how I got the last tank of gas it needed...

I've been dizzy with a sinus infection that got in the ears, hope it's something that simple for you. Dizzy is scary, for me anyway. Don't like that feeling.

Lotta jobs are dangerous that way, most folks don't appreciate the risk those of us that make and fix their stuff hafta take. Airplanes are sure unforgiving basturds, even onna relatively little 45 ton DC9, had plenty of moving parts with hydraulic power that wouldn't even strain when they chopped your hand off, or mushed your body to goo. More'n one mechanic, and even bag tossers found that out the hard way.
