Wow, home alone. Been a while, I like it. When it dries out, got knee high grass back in the gully and umpty thousand weeds to dispose of in the gardens. Just wish this rainforest humadity would dry up, too, it's overstaying it's welcome this year.

Moldy ya should of been at the air show, the F-22 flew and did maneuvers in SLOW motion and then went vertical, stopped, and hovered nose up, then slid tail first toward the ground, and then took off like a rocket. It was straight out of star wars....the women had no idea what was happening but when the realization of what we were watching sunk in the Vets in the crowd went nuts! I'm afraid to post the stuff it did because everyone really would think the Bloody Marys got to me. Let me tell ya if videos of that stuff was shown to enemy pilots they would get a sinking feeling in their guts, which of course is the whole point. All the missiles and weapons are stored inside it and they cycled the doors open when they did a sideways force vectored slow flyby freakin crazy!

If things go well for Doc he should skirt to the south of a big batch of storms that go all the way from Indy up through Michigan. Keep your head down, Mark! It looks nasty to me.

Those must have been what went through Moldy's neighborhood.

The storm we had is down in Kentucky creating havoc.

The Mississippi is already flooding north of St. Louis, and all of this participation (right, Al?) is only going to make it worse. There are a couple of river towns that have run out of money for sand and sandbags and might lose this battle against the river. There are already 2 bridges across it that are closed. We won't be overly impacted down this way, yet, because the Missouri River is not flooding too badly. This is beginning to resemble 1993, and it could make for a long, flooded summer.

Oh, and our local National Guard Engineer Battalion can't help, since they are in Afghanistan.
If it's the same storm, don't see how there could be much water left in it...

Some of Mom's family lived on a plain (she was raised there) next to the Missouri River south of St. Joe. Had high bluffs on the Kansas side (Atchison), and 3 or 4 miles to the east was more bluffs. I've seen pictures where the river flooded bluff to bluff, just trees and houses sticking out of the water. Maybe that's why the house she was raised in smelled so musty, or was it the lack of plumbing... I spent most of a year in that house when I was 3-4 and Dad was in Korea, but the water never got up to the house after I was born. The dirt in that area was light gray - deposited river silt from all the floods. Had a grandpa that grew potatoes and green beans in his garden, never had to fertilize, grew just fine year after year. So did the snakes...

Know what morels are? The convoluted surface mushroomy things, like little brains growing out of the sun. I thought the ones from the flood plains had a bit of oyster taste to them, way better than the higher ground forest morels.

When I was a kid, just loved that part of the country, so quiet and peaceful after the Chicago area we moved to after the war. When I was there for Mom's funeral last March, just seemed like someplace I'd never been, hardly anything left I could recognize from even as late as 1969, when I spent most of a summer there. After another war, back to the most peaceful and friendly place I'd ever been...

Buster is glad we got back in time to take out the garbage. Over the years got to know the garbage truck guy, realy nice guy who developed a soft spot for Buster and brings him treats. Heard Sugar start laughing this morning... looked out the window to find him sitting in the yard with his arms around Buster getting his face slurped...It's the little things in life that give ya joy...er...that's what SugarLips says anyway! Moldy the water level in Lake St Clair is up a couple feet this year thank God. Easier on the welds in my seawall....

I wonder why it took so long to get vectored thrust like that on one of our fighters, Russians have been doing those tail dances at airshows for nearly 20 years. I knew the F22 has vectored thrust, but didn't know it was enough to balance vertically; some of our other aircraft have it, but not enough to do that. I watched an interview with a Russian pilot once that said they'd shoot our fighters down with ease because their planes were so much more maneuverable; I think if it'd ever got serious, they'd have found out what the Iraqis did flying those maneuverable Russian fighters; you don't get close to our fighters, they shoot you down from miles away...

I'd love to see a show like that, don't have any love left for airliners, but have always enjoyed seeing the military stuff do their thing. F4's, old and gone as they are, still remain one of my favorites, maybe because I got to see a pair of them plow a bunch of palm trees and other organic matter with 20mm before they incinerated it all with napalm - a couple hundred yards from me...

Yup they were showing off their ground attack mode skills. It could easily out turn the P-51! The only way the enemy could get close enough to dog fight is if we were out of missiles and I'm sure we've got that advantage figured in although at the speeds these fly at closure rates would be incredible...They made it a point to announce that the inboard weapons were for supercruise capability.
