I was on a Sporty just south of the Busch brewery in St. Louis, where there is a big open area to The River, and a huge gust moved me almost a full lane over. Scared me silly. Needless to say, I got off the Interstate and rode side streets back home. I lived close to the city then.

No plastic tape, but I did encounter some inch tall tar snakes in Arkansas 2 years ago. Tar snakes tend to give me the heebie jeebies sometimes. The only good thing about the preponderance of chip and seal roads around here is that there are no tar snakes on them. Lots of tar and rocks, but no snakes.
When I rode my 1200 home from Milwaukee, it wiggled on the tar snakes worse than anything I'd ever ridden, including other Harleys and metrics with Dunlops. Only know tar snakes are there now when I see them, don't feel a thing with the Avons. Thought I'd have to get rid of that 21" wheel, but it was the tires. Still planning on trying a 19" cast wheel on it; would feel better with a tubeless tire, too, the 21 is spoke and tube. I have to admit, the one blowout I've had wouldn't have been helped by a tubeless, even those don't deal with a 4" rip in the sidewall very well, either. As far as tire handling goes, some brands aren't any better than they were 50 years ago. Or as good as some were 50 years ago.

Useta be a house builder and inspector, pointed out a few things he's gonna fix for her, and I think he found the roof leak nobody's been able to figure out. Might be just the guy she needs to get the house back in shape. And it didn't rain too hard, only got damp, not soaked. Wettest summer so far I've seen here. Bumper crop of skeeters, too. Hate those things, but they seem to like me...

This would probably handle it just fine, even if my grandkid says it's butt ugly. Thought I'd got rid of it, but it's squeezed into the garage again, darnit. 7 bikes out there now, and room for.... two. I gotta admit, I just love these things off road.
