Sounds like a great place for off roading. Probably not much traffic on the roads, either. I kinda liked Texas when I lived there, places where even a big twin could manage ok off road. The hard tail I tried off road dint ride so great, though. Not so bad on the smooth areas, but then I had to try a jump with it...

Why do some of what should be simple tasks have to be otherwise? Needed to put new pads in the rear brakes on the Softail. Basturd fought me all the way. The darn caliper piston just did not want to retract. Much cussing later, it is all back snugged up and ready to stop me again. Never did get around to the stupid grass, and ain't gonna now.
Here's my mechanic wiping one off with a q tip after breaking the crud loose with alcohol soaked floss, not one of his favorite things to do...
good luck with an ocean on your back an sides.....

Was stationed there a bit over a year before going overseas, couple months at Ft. Hood, rest at a little place in the boonies called Gray Army Airfield. It was little, but had enough ordnance to level a big city - they stored nukes there. Enjoyed the year round riding and, at the time, almost no fences anywhere. Found out long horn cattle aren't at all friendly with motorcycles... and it was a real bad idea to run over armadillos.
