My advanced MSF instructor almost failed me for using one finger on the brakes. He got over it when I told him it was from riding off-road. He said 9 of 10 with that habit were MXer's but I needed to use all of my fingers if I was going to pass.

I think focus is key.
Lack of it can get you hurt or killed quickly.
Especially when you are two up.
Distractions are deadly.
Got to keep that focus.

A good sign of an advanced rider is by the way the person rides through a downtown congested main street one handed and their feet up on the crash bars.

When coming to a stop, always come to a stop in the right or left wheel lane position. The foot that goes down should be the one that is away from the oil stripe. If you put two down, one will end up in the oil and you might go down. Never dirty foot down.

Very true. I've got some brothers that have been in the saddle for 30-40+ years (real salt-of-the-earth fellas) and they still duck-walk around the parking lot or while executing a U-turn. These guys can ride parade formation all day long and maintain their lines in a curve but look like rookies at low speed. Still, I would consider their skills "advanced" compared to many riders that I have seen. Guess appearances can be deceiving.

[quote=ColoFXDC;11633754 There is no excuse to duck walk on any bike.[/quote]

what about when im riding between my truck and my suv with only about 4 inches on each side of me? is it ok to duck walk then?

or should I man up and learn to ride my bike? maybe get some training wheels? I mean I dont do it any other time I just want to make sure with the experts that its ok to do this. how about when im going into the garage about a foot from my wifes bike and the wall is it ok then ?
