Default ID check at Army post gate

OK, fellow brothers in arms, really dumb question here.

Last time I rode was at Bragg when there were no gates. How do I not look like an idiot fumbling for my ID?

Have the typical issue getting it into neutral. Fumbling with one hand with gloves on ........

How do you all deal with this?

Some of the guys on base here wear the reflective vests designed for military riders that have the clear pocket to keep your I.D. in. I have also seen a few clear arm bands that you can keep an I.D. in.

Fortunately our base is so small that you tend to get the same guard at the gate, so I always just get waived through...lol

Not Military, But I wear my work ID on a leash around my neck. Keep it under my T-shirt while riding in the summer. Or just under my jacket in winter. You can find these on-line. I think wallyworld has them too.

That is the easiest way regarding the vest. Conversely I never had an opportunity to get on base with my bike but know plenty of people that have.

The guards occasionally want to touch the card so the vest or arm holder are only convenient sometimes. I usually tuck my id between my seat and tank if I know I am going on post.

reflective vest REQUIRED at night with pocket and keep my ID in there and during day light time we have to wear long sleeve shirt and I keep ID in pocket. Guard needs to be handed ID, so not wanting to hold up traffic at gate, I roll up, pull in clutch, and use throttle hand and whip out pre-staged ID.

we dont have to wear refelcted vest in the marine corps. i either wear the clear arm band or i will tuck my id in between myself and the seat for easy access. i hate coming up to the gate and looking like an idiot trying to get my bike in neutral then trying to get the damn thing out of my pocket with my gloves on!!!

I'm retired now and don't live near a base but I used to put my I.D. in my left glove, on top of my hand. I could keep my clutch pulled in and retrieve the I.D. with my right hand and hand it to the gate gard. At Elmendorf AFB they always scanned it.

I keep mine in my jacket pocket or front pocket of my ABUs. I wear a reflective belt on Lewis or a full reflective vest if I have to go to McChord Field. I usually take the time to put the bike in neutral while I'm rolling up and get the ID out. At JBLM they have to handle and scan the card. I don't care if I hold up traffic though. I'd rather make sure the bike is good either in neutral or I can get to the card easy with the clutch pulled in. That's better than dumping the clutch and the bike stalling or hitting something.

Never thought of sticking in my glove or sitting on it. Might try that tomorrow.
