Personally I'm just using synthetic and won't feel bad about letting it go 20,000 miles. No engine contaminants in the primary, or shouldn't be. Same for the transmission. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are folks that don't know there's 3 holes, and go 100,000 miles without changing either the primary or the transmission without having a problem.

I changed the primary oil on schedule...but figured clutch interval would match primary oil change. I've got synthetic in all three holes, with a heavier grade in the tranny. Glad to hear HD clutch adjustment interval isn't tht fussy. Shouldn't be...metric bikes just have shared oil...and even with all the engine contaminants, their clutches have very long adjustment intervals. Somebody once told me HD clutches are really rugged..

Big twins seem to be, but I've read horror stories about sporties when the brass riveted shock absorbing plate came apart. There are recommendations on this forum to change them by 15,000 miles (that plate anyway); mine has over 30K, and I should be getting my Barnett plate kit any day; getting the one that does away with that riveted plate. Hopefully will be the last clutch for that bike, that I put in anyway. I gotta get heat in my grudge, snow finally melted a week ago, and today it's back in the 30's, just too damn cold to do wrenching so the bike still isn't ready. Or maybe build a ramp to the house back door...

Guy I got an EVO bagger from this winter told me it got a new clutch about 20K ago, but I'm going to pull it and make sure since I'll have the primary cover off anyway. Gotta have 3 Harleys so I have one running...
