Never had that problem before, but lookin at these, they're pretty grungy on the exposed portion. Pushed em all the way in for the new pads, suspect that caused the problem, probably got some grungy area into the seal, lettin air by. Maybe. Yeah, first thought was channel locks, done that before, but these are really tight, might end up needing new cylinders. Might not be a bad idea anyway, new seals, too.

Heard of them, just never felt a big need to buy them before. I've heard using an oil can (that never had oil in it) works great to pump up to the master cylinder, might get a new can just to see; never had a problem big enough to try it before.

Put the caliper and pads back on and bleed 'em the old fashion way. It's easer to do if you have another person to help you. Keep the master cylinder cap off, and add DOT 5 as you need it. Your breaks should pump up just fine.

Worst case, you may need to rebuild your master cylinder. It's easy and cheap.
the seals may be the problem, or part of it. I think the master's ok, pumps fluid, just doesn't get the air out. With the mityvac, get lots of air, like there's a hole somewhere.

On cages I just stuck the end of the hose I use for bleeding in a jar of brake fluid and then pump the brakes a few times, keep tabs on the reservoir level, and stop when I pump a couple three times with no bubbles in the tube. Don't need a second pair of hands (or foots) that way. You'd think it would just suck fluid up from the jar, and stay kind of neutral, but there must be enough resistance to sucking fluid up from the jar that it works. Don't get enough action from a bike's brake lever to work on a bike I guess, tried it once and it didn't work.

If I had to pay shop rates on my pension, I'd have to ride a Honda so I'd hardly ever have to do anything except oil changes, cause if I had a Honda I probably wouldn't ride it enough to wear anything out, kinda like the old one I have under a pile of stuff in the garage...
