An 85-year-old man driving a motorcycle was listed in critical condition after an accident Sunday afternoon in Highland Township.

The 21-year-old driver of a Ford Escape was changing lanes on east bound M-59 west of Highland Park Drive when the man from Orion Township was hit on his 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in its report.

"The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, then went off the road and hit three parked vehicles in the LaFontaine auto dealership, according to the report."

So are they saying if he hadn't been wearing a helmet he wouldn't have gone off the road? I'm not making the connection of the helmet and leaving the road.

 

That's the new Michigan way of reporting motorcycle accidents. New helmet law, so all the groups are keeping tally to point fingers next spring. Worthless F's anyway.

 

Statistically young drivers are more dangerous than old drivers. I would figure the same applies to riders.

 

That sucks.

Helmet? You are supposed to wear helmets? I think that, at 85, he should be "grandfathered out" of that law...just sayin'

 

I think that the gov should get out of everyone's lives, and let the rider make the decision...but that is a whole other topic....

 

I don't know if he is that old but my barber is from Orion and rides the same bike

 

Hope I can still ride at his age. Was the young guy texting/talking on his cell? Up here you can always tell if the victim was on a Harley-they mention it in every news report like it was the cause of the crash. never mention the other bikes at all.
Hope he pulls through although at that age it may take awhile.
