I have both: textile and leather riding gear. Both sets have over pants. I prefer the textile for touring and the leather for commuting. I own a pair of chaps, which I never wear. They do nothing over pants can't (except expand the waistline) and provide less protection in a crash. I wear my normal jeans when I ride. I've tried the kevlar jeans and they are not comfortable enough to wear all day and they fit terrible. Over pants are easy to get into and out of.
Isn't there a manual that lists the pros and cons of the two articles of clothing. My mom dressed me when I was a small child, since then I haven't had the need to ask for help in choosing clothes. Especially not asking on a forum.

Years ago bought the wife and I leather pants she looked so good in them they were off more than on if you know what I mean.They were very hot in warm weather we sold them and since then always have chaps for the cooler riding.
