Wearing a full face helmet on a Harley ...Yea or Nay ?
#53
First 2000 miles or so on the Harley, I wore nothing but my Bell RS-1 full face--until the bike was like a part of me. I still prefer it at highway speeds (I have no windshield, by choice). I got a DOT half helmet to wear when riding back roads or at lower speeds. As much as I am a supporter of FF helmets, the wide open vista and peripheral vision with a half helmet is really enjoyable. Lately though, with all the rain, the bugs have been so bad I have been grabbing the FF. Plus it's getting colder and darker and I have a transitions lens in the FF, so I don't have to bring 2 pairs of glasses. So sometimes I grab the FF out of laziness. And of course, if it looks like rain, I grab the FF.
They don't make you turn in your Harley if you are seen in a FF. Wear what you want.

Missouri is a helmet state
My mood changes --
* 1/2 Bell Helmet when it's real hot, it might protect the top of my head.
* 3/4 HJC IS-22 w/shield, very versatile and quiet, love it during about 60% of my riding time.
* FF Bell Revolver for when it's under 45 degrees or during longer hwy trips.
Beyond the minimal crash protection -- Half helmets don't do much for big bugs/birds/gravel in the face at hwy speeds. Don't like the risk good sunglasses blowing away with a half helmet. I forget my goggles too often.
Wear whatever makes you happy........

Wear or don't wear whatever you feel comfortable with and don't worry about what we think. It's your head, right?
Personally, I wear a FF or a DOT half helmet depending on the weather and how I'm feeling that given day. Some days when I'm really feeling lucky I go without a helmet. To each his own!

I ride the crotch rocket with a fullface, always. and ride the harley with no helmet.
the little redhead i met insists on a fullface on either bike.
doesnt bother me, i would like to keep her face looking like it does now, lol.
i wish i would have had the ff on the harley this past weekend, 873 miles in the texas hill country, mostly in the evening. big bugs and cold!

I wore a full-face for nearly the whole first season I had my Harley until I felt more comfortable with my skills. Even then, if it's cold or I'm planning to go at speeds over 45 miles-per-hour I prefer my FF to keep the wind off of my face and the bugs out of my teeth. Still, I consider myself in the minority. The vast majority of Harley riders in my area prefer to go helmet-less for whatever reasons they might have. Maybe they just think they look cool without a helmet. Maybe they like the wind in their hair. I don't judge them, but I'm not going to change my helmet policy just to fit in.
