Used to be a fur trapper...spent many nights in a single-wall tent, banked with snow, a small airtight heater (burned wood) that never lasted all night. Good sleeping bag. coldest was -57F, but many at -35F. Did get stuck in a blizzard for a week, but was in a small 2-man log cabin with a larger airtight stove. -65F was cold.

36* in Yosemite. Hiked Half Dome the next day just to thaw out. Beautiful park.

Camping in the teens. Proper bag as others have said and a decent tent make a vast difference.

 

Went camping with the kids when they were in Adventure Scouts. Ocala National Forest, was supposed to get down to about 35F. Kids tents were rated for 20F, my tent was rated for 40F; thought I would be fine. It ended up hitting about 27F, and even with pants, tshirt, shirt, sweatpants, sweatshirt, and jacket, I froze. Kids said it was chilly, but they were fine in their 20F rated bags, so I'm gonna go with the others who say if you get the correct bag you'll be fine.

Don't get to see freezing temps much (ever) in S Fla; still have the pictures of ice on the car when we got up Kids thought it was great.

edit....why would you be camping in Ft. Greeley. Isn't that a whole bunch of barracks? Or did they kick you to the snow-bank to make you tougher?

 

Our family has been camping near 40 yrs,always in a tent.The wife and I tried a popup the last couple of years,(too small) finally stepping up to a travel trailer.The coldest we remember was 38 degrees one morning,the camp fire felt some good.
