-5 .. small tent beside the bike, decent sleeping bag.. 33 degrees when we bedded down. -5 when we woke up. The next night was in a motel. Nobody in their right mind would think camping in -5 is enjoyable. It was very cold, my head hurt.. I felt terrible all day. The 10 mile ride to the motel was hell.

A good quality water proof tent , air mattress & good bags are standard equipment for me period on all road trips for many years now . I've had a 70 deg day drop to the 20's over night before it's rude and possibly life threatening if you don't have the gear . Hell anybody been to Sturgis more that twice has a taste of radical temp drops , hail and monsoon rain storms .

About 10*F wind blowing ~25mph and snow falling; using a Therm-a-rest "Base Camp" sleeping pad, 20*F mummy bag, 3 season tent, only wearing underwear. Key is not wearing too many clothes, so you don't start to sweat before everything "gets to temperature". I've slept comfortably* at 40*F with only a parachute lean-to and some improvised material to insulate from the ground in survival school. Good camping gear is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to sleeping comfortably in cold weather.

*Comfort in survival school is exaggerated compared to "normal" camping. lol

Growing up in New Brunswick Canada we camped in the winter in the snow in minus weather...Dug a hole in the snow, lined it with pine branches and a foam liner, good sleeping bag and pile the snow on top of you and you stay cozy warm all night....If you have a good quality sleeping bag it's no isse...You won't sweat so a little wet wipe pack should be enough to wash up....Getting dressed is a bitch.,...

I was a Boy Scout and I am amazed I lived thru it. We went on Camporees, Jamboress, and once a year on "Freezerees". I remember being at Cold Forge N.Y. in January 1973 and thinking it was over. 12" inches of snow...35 mph winds...and temps around 12 degrees. IT SUCKED. Wearing 2 layers of long underwear, pants, shirt, full uniform, down sleeping bag, packing blankets underneath, good tent, and still waking cold and out of it. Having frost on our faces. Stiff joints as kids. Nowadays I'm a Hotel guy. Save that **** for the youngsters.

-15 Celsius. Gear: standard FFL issued sleeping bag, standard issued shitty POS tent (we called it dachshound garage). No air mattress, no friggin nothing. Wasn't fun when I was 19, would be impossible now. I' roght with TXswede on this one, gotta be nuts to sleep outside when it's freezin'.

38 degrees with breeze one morning. It surprized us all but still a fun time.Hot coffee sure was a hit that morning. It's all about being prepared and have a woman next to you.
