Smile air currents

the thing that affects me most is the "dirty" air a few yards behind the rig. after i back off some i feel "clean"air again There is a void up close where u Draft but i only feel that in a cage. i feel alternating blasts^left, right^~ in the "dirty air" zones; too worried about safety to experiment in the drafting area; bike needs the clean air to work best. on the sides of a rig,air pushes me away from rig near the front seems to pull toward the rig more the closer u get to the rear of big rig..shape of rig affects change of air flow Šaffects on bike.

Speaking of passing gas, I usually wait, if I can, for a red light, stand up, let it fly and then listen to the OL bitch until we start going again.

Like one of the other posters mentioned I think it has more to do with the truck/trailer aerodynamics. I have had that effect where one passes going the other direction and it feels like it will almost take you off the bike while the next 5-6 barely throw off anything.

I agree, the seems to me that the new trucks with all the streamlining have less of a shock wave than the older ones. I also notice more turbulence behind a flat bed with a variety of cargo, or a car hauler.

Turbulance....worst are tankers, flatbeds and carhaulers...probably in that order. Tri-axles are bad too + all the debris they throw about.

Never know about this forum.
Trouble with the internet is you can't hear a persons voice, or see their facial expressions, so it is often difficult to determine a persons intent.
....of course, you knew that.......

Arrow truck breakin wind

i saw a NATGEO story on dangerous roads, some road in Austria allows multiple trailer rigs;the longer the "train" the greater the effect of being sucked into the side of the semi.

roo......Satire?

quote

When an 18-wheeler passes you on a windy day, going 80-85 miles per hour, does it blow or suck?

I would have to say both.

If its doing 80-85 it's definitely blowing by me.

The sucky part is I'd have to be on the interstate for it to do it.

Interstates just plain suck for biking IMO.
