I can't say that I don't sympathize.....some people with OBNOXIOUSLY loud pipes and little ***** syndrome ruin it for the rest of us by revving the absolute **** out of their bikes at every opportunity and any time of the day or night....those are the people we have to thank for all the crackdowns and new noise laws.

I find it funny that they state loud pipes don't save lives, alert riding skills ect.. (which I partially agree with (you need both).. then state that they are tired of hearing motorcycles coming at them from a 1/2 mile off... Duh If you can hear the bike coming at you from 1/2 mile off. You are aware of the motorcycles existance and that it's coming at you.. Makes you more alert to it's presence.. They're logic is flawed.

Massey said. "I tell my officers, 'Let that motorcycle get 100 yards ahead of you. And with your windows rolled up and your radio on, can you clearly hear it?' We don't have to make borderline enforcements here. Let's do the very ridiculous, excessive ones."

... I completely agree with that. I hate obnoxious drag pipes as much as most others. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Where's the part about "all bikers being jerks"? ...I see it mentioned in the comments, but not in the story. Was the article edited... or am I missing something?

It's inevitable that people would get tired of the loud pipes.

exactly, I ride around town and keep it down as much as i can, i dont have to twist my throttle half a dozen times at a stop light, and i dont race from light to light..ride it right and you much less annoying.

The problem is, some States are going to have noise laws, others are not going to care to much and its just going to make it hard for us to travel from State to State, now i know that i should avoid this State and Town and spend my money elsewhere.

And who does Vinnie Varoom have to blame for his situation? There was (I haven't seen it for awhile) a bike here in town that had a megaphone type muffler that was obnoxiously loud and the rider had to blip the throttle at every stop and accelerate hard to the next stop sign. It was not funny or pleasant. I came up behind a bike on the highway one day and his pipes actually hurt my ears so bad that I sped up and passed him. They were creating what I would describe as "bullets" of air that assaulted my ear drums even with a 3/4 helmet. Not cool at all. I'll guarantee you that a couple of shoppers pushing their sleeping toddlers in strollers are not going to be happy when a bike comes blasting by and their kids wake up screaming. I know it's an old, beat to death subject, but if we don't police ourselves law enforcement will do it for us. Yes, I have V&H Big Shot staggered with quiet baffles but I know when to keep em quiet.
