It's very simple...
The Maine law appears to outlaw my Thunder header as well as these idiots. As I read it any aftermarket exhaust that is even 1 db louder than stock is illegal. I chose my Thunder header only for its power making ability...but it is louder than stock. That is how they ruin it for everyone.

Well then that makes you part of the problem according to most people, so you too are helping to ruin it for everyone. Why do you get to decide what is an acceptable level of aftermarket noise but others don't? Why didn't you just leave the exhaust stock so it was quieter and wouldn't be pissing some people off?
I have heard people in Edmonton complain about the level of sound a stock Harley produces yet alone any aftermarket.

And who does Vinnie Varoom have to blame for his situation? There was (I haven't seen it for awhile) a bike here in town that had a megaphone type muffler that was obnoxiously loud and the rider had to blip the throttle at every stop and accelerate hard to the next stop sign. It was not funny or pleasant. I came up behind a bike on the highway one day and his pipes actually hurt my ears so bad that I sped up and passed him. They were creating what I would describe as "bullets" of air that assaulted my ear drums even with a 3/4 helmet. Not cool at all. I'll guarantee you that a couple of shoppers pushing their sleeping toddlers in strollers are not going to be happy when a bike comes blasting by and their kids wake up screaming. I know it's an old, beat to death subject, but if we don't police ourselves law enforcement will do it for us. Yes, I have V&H Big Shot staggered with quiet baffles but I know when to keep em quiet.

I agree that morons who rev their engines (around here, it's mostly the metric cruiser & sportbike riders) are deserving of a ticket, those with loud pipes who are riding normally are being targeted unfairly. There is a difference between necessary noise (loud pipes driven gently in residential areas,airplanes,construction equipment,sirens) and UNnecessary noise (barking dogs, boom box cars,revving engines) If you are abusing your loud pipes, you should be ticketed. But if you are harassed unfairly, 'cause your pipes are slightly louder than stock (not for straight pipe riders) their is one option you can try. Every biker should, when they are driving their cars ONLY, hit their horn when they pass,say,a red car, or fire hydrant,or whatever. Make it known this will continue until the unfair harassing stops. It's called "civil disobedience", & I think we need a little more of it in this country.
