Helmet Question, Need HELP!!!
I just got my new Iron 883 about a week ago and I got the Bell Drifter Half Helmet in black leather to go with it. It is the sickest looking helmet out there but it is also the biggest honking mushroom head helmet I have ever worn! I love the fit and feel of the helmet and most importantly, I feel safe wearing it but it does look pretty ridiculous due to the size. The obvious solution would be to get something else but id love to find a way to keep this one but make it sit lower on my head.
Does anyone know of a way to get the helmet to sit lower? I've read some people remove some of the foam, soak their helmets in water or even get the foam replaced with a custom molded foam insert. Has anyone had any success in "slimming" their helmets profile?
Thanks for the help folks.

Put the helmet on and tighten down the chinstrap firmly. Have one of your friends hit your helmet with a sledgehammer repeatedly until it no longer looks like a mushroom.

On a serious note, I spoke to a tech at Bell who was actually pretty knowledgable. She haid the Drifter comes in 6 sizes but that there are only 2 shell sizes. One shell for sizes XS - L and a slightly larger shell for sizes XL and XXL. I ordered the large which is the smaller shell on my bigger head. She suggested going up to the XL as the larger shell will sit down lower on my head. I will give it a try and let you guys know how it turns out.

Shop around at some of the bike shops and try a bunch of them on. You'll know when you get the right one. Just make sure that initially it is a little too tight. It will loosen in time.

First of all, congrats on the new bike. Second, don't mess with the lining of the helmet. If you don't like the way it sits on your head then try other helmets. A DOT helmet is not going to sit on your head like a skull cap, I don't care what anyone says. If you want the skull cap look then buy a skull cap and don't worry about it being DOT approved.
