Default No, Harley not sold

No it is not sold. There are rumors of interest by a large investment company. This company typically does not change management, divest, etc. They usually invest for the long term

What ever happens, I hope the same thing doesn't happen like it did in 1969 when AMF took it over.

So what if it is sold? What did AMF do wrong? They bought a small manufacturer with no quality control, implemented some discipline to the manufacturing process, spent the money for R&D that led to the first Evo engine and then sold the company when they had to focus on their own core business during a different recession. Harley would have been gone long ago without AMF. What will a new owner do? Downsize? Send manufacturing jobs overseas? Make parts in China? Oh, wait, that's what the current ownership is doing.......

Default I'd have to agree about AMF

so they did increase production to a level that compromised quality. They pumped money into the company and helped keep it alive. It's not so hard to see why harley did so well during the boom years. Everybody did. One could almost see this all coming when they dropped Buel and Agusta. Trimming the proverbial fat for sale. It's takes more than just a few loyal riders to keep a company in the black and if people are walking away from their mortgages then they're walking away from their bikes too. I hope harley can weather this storm but I won't be surprised at all if they shut almost all north american production down and we end up with Indian Harleys (no pun intended)

My guess is rape harder, big time. They would now be in possession of the last remaining great American motorcycle icon. Big time collector pieces, for sure.
