I'm no economist and the "Buy American" slogan is probably simplistic, but I can't see how it could hurt if it's done at the consumer level. No tariffs or subsidies to anger our trade partners. Will it make a difference? Here in New England we have many small manufacturing buisnesses that will certainly benefit.
As far as only the rich can afford American made products, I disagree. There are plenty of American products on shelves in grocery and department stores. They are competively priced and mostly superior quality. It just takes effort to read labels. Now for electronics we have no choice, I believe it's all foreign. You do have choices in clothing, furniture, appliances, home repair items, tools, small engines, etc.
