Harley v Victory?

I think the Victory is a cool ride. There doesn't appear to be much you can do to the motor to bling it out like a harley - it's pretty much what it is. Also, they appear to depreciate a bit faster than Harley. The new baggers do look good...

well, we aren't all wishy washy.
Like I said, there will be a Cross Roads in my future unless Harley get's their thumb out of their azz and builds something new and sweet.
I'd buy a V-rod based tourer...even though a lot of you hate the idea of one.
I've never given a flying fk what people think of what I ride, and never will.

Schu, we've been on agreement on this in the past that HD can really do something with that Revolution engine. They have a real gem there. Still a V-Twin, sounds good, looks good, and makes POWER. The water cooling gives it the capability of meeting EPA for years to come. Higher compression, more power. I hear all these guys talking about doing this and that to the twin cam to make more power. The Revo's got it. It's a good platform to build something different. Let's take the ceuiser into the 21st century! Victory is doing something a little different. Time for HD to also.
DAMNIT I'm too tired I'm gonna stop typing soon lol.......nevermind my previous statement on that matter

Do they still make the Flathead? Nope. Time to move on. The market and other circumstances change. Move with it or risk becoming obsolete or worse. Not ALL new bikes would have to be water cooled. Or will they? EPA gettin' tight, man. Even Porsche went with liquid cooling in the 911. Two of the things I hear about Harley engines is hot running and relatively low power (why else would people spend thousands with performance engine mods.) Water cooling helps with both those issues. Hey, I like air cooled motors, but I like liquid cooled ones too.

my journey to 'The King'
After 146 replies - this thread wavered but returned on track.
I looked at the Victory and road the touring cruiser. It had more power then 'The King', but back then (2004) Victory really did not have a distinctive look. The road king wana be was pretty pathetic looking and nothing else that year really offered what I wanted - a touring bike.
I also road the wing and interceptor from Honda and the Rocket from Triumph. The wing was very heavy handling and had a very very wide seating position. The Interceptor had to much of a sport bike feel and not enough cruiser. The Rocket, wow, I came very close to getting the rocket even with the crappy brakes, but there was virtually no touring accessories at the time.
'The King' was my choice for the ride, bags, windshield, seating position, after market support and resale value. And yes, I wanted a Harley - but I did look elsewhere and ride several other brands, only those above actually caught my attention for more than a single test ride.
I am very happy with 'The King' and plan on applying way to much money in aftermarket goodies.

Many people will tell you that they do not buy a Harley to have a powerful bike. Duh! Harley goers are looking for something different. You don't buy a Harley to go fast, so why on Earth are you all complaining about the lack of power of the V-Twin?
I believe that if many HD go with a water cooled engine, many MANY people will stop buying Harley and Harley will just become another generic brand making generic bikes that do not have any soul because they will look all other bikes!
