I think fringe is required in southeast MI, this side of the mitten is without fringe.

Where did the whole "fringe" thing start, anyway, if anyone knows? I have this vague recollection of places like "Chess King" in the early 1970's selling stuff with fringe on it. But that's the earliest memory I have of it. What's the origin?

FWIW, although I don't have fringe anything, I had some fringed handgrips once, and it felt and looked cool riding down the road with the things flappin' about in the wind. (Does this mean I'm gay?)

I think what he is saying is that he is tired of the fringe hitting him in the legs as he wraps them around his man....He has had enough!!

Originally fringe was used in the pioneer days to prevent water from running down your arm and getting your powder wet. Also, when short of thread the seams were knotted together, thus the fringe. I don't see much difference in fringe on a jacket vs. fringe from handgrips. Fringe on a jacket is much more practical. What's wrong with being different, to each his own. If you're a poser then I guess it matters what others think.
