Leather Pants vs. Chaps
#11
Like Gump I like to be able to loose the chaps when I get off for a while. I found these are great for summertime use in Florida. With the mesh backs, I can where shorts underneath for when I get off the bike. They also don't have the cumbersome belt since they hook over your regular belt. Not for everyone but might work for some.

I thought 'bout them, but at 6'6", it is hard enough just buying jeans long enough, let alone, leather bibs.

I bought a pair of assless chaps, soon after I bought my bike and I found them to be impractical for anything but long rides and are kind of a pain to take on and off. BTW, are you supposed to put them on over jeans that you are already wearing a belt with? 'Cuz I haven't found that to be a very comfortable option. Seems like you should wear them without a belt underneath.
Then last night, I tried on a pair of buffalo skin leather pants and they rocked! Nice quality, thick leather; the liner in them made them very comfortable to wear and they looked great on me, if I do say so myself. They were also reasonably priced. So, I am thinking of getting a pair of these leather pants and ditching the chaps. Seems they would be more protective as well.
EDIT:
A question for the ladies:
Would you rather see a guy in chaps or leather pants? I know I would rather see a lady in leather pants, myself (depending on what's underneath - heh). Chaps look rather cheesy to me. On me they do, anyway...

I prefer to wear my chaps every time I ride when it's too warm to wear my leather pants ... always have. Sometimes I wear both my leather pants AND my chaps (Especially when I am traveling in cooler temperatures). My jeans belt doesn't interfere with my chaps buckle because my chaps fit much lower on my hips...so I don't have a problem with that. I find my chaps very comfortable and don't mind wearing them at all.
As for your query:
Personally, I don't mind seeing a man in either chaps or leather pants ... However, I am more partial to the ones that wear their chaps OVER their jeans ... Not underneath their jeans...But that's just me.

For those that like leather pants and own a GPS, here's a POI file that may be of interest to you.

Ummm, You asked for our opinions and here is mine.
I think seeing a man wearing leather pants is weird.
When I started riding with Dave I wasn't used to wearing chaps either. It took some time but now I'm completely comfortable wearing them, putting them on, and taking them off. Do I think I look my best while wearing them? NO. I still think I look funny wearing them, but then again I don't wear them to fashion shows. I wear them for a purpose, and that purpose is my warmth.
Wear what you want to wear. It's your comfort, warmth, safety, etc. Whatever you wear there will always be someone who thinks you look weird anyway.

Got some chaps about six years ago. Yeah, I look funny in them. My wife's always cracking on me when I wear them (she likes my butt). Nice to be able to take them off, and I can bend my legs at the hip better than if in pants. I got them for warmth, but usually don't ride much when it's cold enough to wear them, and even when it is, I try to get by without them if I'm not going too far. Just something else to deal with. I wear them below my jeans buckle, so that's not a problem.
Village People ruined the biker leather look, IMO. I just try not to think about it.

I wear an eight your old pair of heavy duty Harley-Davidson FXRG buffalo pants. They have some crash protection padding and do not let any cold air through. They have a liner so they are not overly hot in the summer. Harley-Davidson doesn't sell them anymore but I have found a website that says they can get them for $783 a pair. I think I paid around $400 for them new. I like them and if you get a pair for cheap you won't be disappointed. I'm wearing them in my signature picture below.

Gump, had no idea you were that frigg'n tall. Are the bib's like the apron some LEO's wear? Yup I bet it'd be hard to find something that will fit! Fer the rest of ya, ya run into fashion police everwhere ya go, not interested in your opinions. I wear leather pretty much all the time, winter & summer. If I hit the asphalt, just want the least bit of damage possible to this old frame.
