Default Help with proper "Biker Etiquette"/

Good morning folks,

I have a pretty serious question for all my poser and (wannbe poser) friends here.

While riding the slab into work this morning (yes, I actually went to work this morning) a guy riding an Ultra pulled up along side of me, slowed for a moment, checked out my bike, and gave me a "thumbs up". I was in the next to inside lane doing about 75 and I'm reasonably sure it was the bike and not me he was checking but I guess I could be wrong. He caught me off guard with his "thumbs up" and not knowing how to respond, I instinctively returned his "thumbs up". As the freeway part about a 1/4 mile later, he took his hand off the throtttle and gave me a quick "three finger off the side wave" which I returned and we each went our seperate ways but it got me to thinking.

What should the proper response have been to his "thumbs up"?

He didn't wave.
He didn't give me a low five.
He didn't give me a high five.
He didn't give me a modified high five with one finger.

I did a search but couldn't find a "How to respond when someone gives you a thumbs up" thread.

I'm really stressing here as I want to act like a real biker while not looking like a poser trying to look like a real biker.

Help me out here, I know some here don't wave so this question is directed to those "posers" who do.

Does someone know the proper etiquette for this type of situation?

Thanks,

Krusr

NOT wanting to come off as Billy Badazz, I usually just haul the neighbor kid 'round with me. He's good for couple hundred miles. That way, I still can maintain my squeaky clean POSER image, BUT still get my point across.

Thumbs up means he approves of your ride. I would have waved in thanks...

You could have given the "hang loose" sign. He might have met a GW at the previous light and given the thumbs down sign..........just waving back would have been just too mundane. That's a really hard call to make. One sign might have gotten you shot while the next sign might have been construed as a come on.

OH BOY........You were WAY OUT OF LINE! I thought you were a BIKER?
Don't you know about the "three finger off the side wave" ? Everyone knows sup wit dat.
I'll explain it to you just this one time, and one time only. When someone gives you the
"three finger off the side wave". It means you are suppose to follow them to the next exit. Get off your bikes and talk about, where you got those heated gloves, assless chaps, boots, jacket, and helmet. See who paid the most $ for their gear....ect.
