Think Twice Before Subscribing to XM
#22
I try and listen to my local stations now and after an hour I hear from every car dealer and diamond dealer in a 50 mile radius. It's well worth 13 bucks a month not to hear that chit.

Sirius does the same, they renewed and billed me every year without my consent, and when I bitched about it the barley english speaking girl told me that automatic renewal is agreed to when you sign up, only I purchased by phone and they did not mention it. Then when I cancelled my (2) radios they said I had to pay for the current month, I said okay but then they cannceled it the next day. I said who cares until I looked at my credit card and realized they only refunded one radio. After talking to barely english again they gave me back all my money, I wonder how many never call back or notice that they ripped them off.

XM (and Sirius since they are now one) customer service does lack, but you can get you rmoney's worth out of them if you know how.
My first XM receiver, I put in the truck last spring. I was ready to sign up for full price until I searched and found that there are several different codes you can give to get different promotions. I found the one that got me the cheapest rate, and used it.
XMSCION03 - 3 mos free trial
0EM001NNA - 3 mos free trial
ZWINBACK - 1 yr for $77
I did the Scion code online and immediately was given the 3 month trial. Two days later I found the $77/yr code and called back with that. The first 4 calls I was told that the ZWINBACK promotion had expired. The fifth call landed on some chick over in the Phillippines and within 10 minutes she had me up and running. She asked if I wanted to add a credit card to the account, I said yes and she took another $12.95 off the $77, which puts me at $64.05 for the year ($5.34/mo). That's in my truck...
Mama wanted XM for Christmas this year, so I obliged and installed a new head unit and XM receiver. I did the same thing, searched online for current promotions...I found one that Infinity had going for all new 2008 QX56 SUV purchases. The promotion started in June of this year and was for "a limited time only". I figured it's only 6 months later, wouldn't hurt to try it right?
I called XM, told them I just bought an '08 QX56 last week and want to activate my free trial subscription. They asked for the radio ID, I gave it up and no dice. They said that they could not match the promotion to my radio. I said that there had to be something wrong on their end and asked to be transferred to tech support. After a good fifteen-twenty minutes on hold and tech support finally picked up. I told her what was going on, which package I was after, she ran the radio ID, confirmed that I had the package and even apologized for the inconvenience.
The wife's truck - 2006 Chevy Equinox
The XM package (thanks to infinity) - 3 year "trial" XM Everything
The price - FREE
I think I'll try the same on the bike when I install my new head unit and XM receiver in the next couple of weeks..he he..

This is precisely why I never allow luxury services to be automatically deducted from my account...nor, automatically charged against a credit card. If'n I gotta send 'em a check, I gots control over the matter. There's always the kinda situation Gumby described, but that's usually easier to deal with than tryin to get yer $$ back from 'em. Bastards aren't interested in doin good business anymore...just get what they can from ya...while they can get it...any which way they can get it.
