it started with the medieval knight that wore the same arms coat used to wave to one another. I only wave if I know the person, and yes 1% er do wave if they know you. I believe the three finger wave was used when waving to 3 wheelers and trikes.

I feel pretty compelled to wave also, simply from having done it for so long. But now there are times when I don't, like the controls thing and some times don't on a divided highway.

Here in Colorado its pretty universal, I think, but on my trip to SD this year I noticed going through the Black Hills more didn't than did, even when I did. I think it gets tiresome up there for some people.

I wave at everybody --- pedestrians, cars, other bikes --- everybody.
