HARDcore bikers wear chaps? or no? or nothing?

Think I may have to break down and buy some chaps myself. It was 34 degrees this morning. After 35 miles at 65-75 Mph my knees were practicaly frozen. I got a set of soft snap on lowers that do a good job for the lower legs and feet but the upper legs get it bad, wearing just the blue jeans, no long underware. I had 5 layers up top, no problem there.
My only though on safety is, what happens if you slide on your ***? Does not look like you would be protected at all.

Well, if you slide on your *** it seems that you'd get a skinned hide. If your married you should be used to that by now, though.

All chaps are azz less, chaps that are not *** less are called pants, why is this so hard.
Chaps (pronounced /ˈʃæps/ or /ˈtʃæps/) are sturdy coverings for the legs consisting of leggings and a belt. They are buckled on over trousers with the chaps' integrated belt, but unlike trousers they have no seat and are not joined at the crotch. They are designed to provide protection for the legs and are usually made of leather or a leather-like material. They are most commonly associated with cowboy culture of the American west, as a protective garment to be used when riding a horse through brushy terrain. In the modern world, they are worn for both practical work purposes and for exhibition or show use.
And yes I have a pair of chaps and yes I wear them when its cold or raining. My choice, my bike, my life. Laugh and point at the way I dress when I ride, then we will talk.

Awesome. It had been a couple of weeks since I read a thread about what to wear and what constitutes a "real," or in this case, "hardcore," biker. Man, I was going through withdrawals.
For the record: chaps when cold, mechanix-style gloves when hot
