Are you a "Biker"
#141
Hmmm.......no tats, conservative government (law enforcement) job. Never been to jail let alone prison. I don't own a piece of Harley clothing other than the t-shirt that came free with the bike. I ride with a few close buds, some of whom ride Harleys, some metrics. And I absolutely refuse to associate with any kind of riding club, be it HOG, a LEO club or whatever. Nothing against those who do; I'm just not into the group identity thing. I average a couple hundred miles a week on the bike, most on weekends (see the first sentence about having a job.) I wave to everything on two wheels including Vespas and Schwinns. And if I couldn't get out on the weekends and ride, I'd probably eat my gun.
So I neither know nor care whether I'm a "biker" in the mind of some shmuck I've never met and probably never will. I'm a guy who rides and enjoys the company of those who also ride. And that's good enough for me.

I read the story and it is a perfect explanation of what "a biker" should mean. Unfortunately while riding and reading many forums I find myself dissappointed many times. For a group of society that preach "live and let live" and individuallity, there are so many that seem to care so much about what people wear. What they ride. How long they've been riding. How much money they make, etc.etc.etc. Just like the story said. I AM a biker because when I sit on that hog I am on my magic carpet. It doesn't matter if I am 2 blocks are 2 states away from home, I might as well be a million miles from home because everything else is gone. I am in the moment and free. Sometimes that moment lasts hours. Sometimes days. Yeah it's a wicked looking raked out Harley but I don't care if you're on a step through scooter, you can ride with me.

Everybody has their own definition of what a "biker" is.
I just got through reading about this Dave Barr guy and I'm gonna get his book.
To me, this guy is a "Biker". Not to advertise for him or anything, but here, just in case you've never heard of him.

Thanks capt775, Dave is truly a biker. My dad was born and raised in Shreveport, many many found memories of LA.
