Snipers are taught to only fire once because firing twice will allow the human ear to triangulate their position. Pipes are a continuous drone. The human ear can triangulate its direction.
If you have never had a driver jerk his neck to look at you with a surprised look because he didn't see you until he heard you, you either haven't been riding that long or you don't pay that much attention.
Loud pipes SLIGHTLY improve your ability to be "seen" while you travel through drivers blind spots. Therefore improving your survivability. If you can't agree with that, you are just being argumentative or you lack common sense.

I don't mind some of the guys here being good naturedly argumentive, but the genuine lack of common sense of a few is a little disturbing...

When you see those window roll up, you know they heard you - if you haven't seen that; you haven't been riding long or just don't pay attention. I've seen doors locked, windows rolled, and kids slide to the other side of the car when I pulled alongside.

I've heard loud pipes on surface streets coming from behind more times than I can count.
I've also heard the thumping from car stereos or pipes from behind me on the interstate with my windows up.Call me a liar if you like.
If loud pipes save one rider from a collision or death,then the thread title is just what others have said....a troll
If loud pipes are outlawed,then we'll have an argument worthy the thread title.

I have found a raccoon tail hanging off the grips definitely helps attract attention - especially if it's still attached to the raccoon and he's still alive!

if u feal safer with loud pipes ride on
personaly i have done better with loud
then there are some that are ubnoxiously loud and the motor sounds bad under load
if u think i should change sumpthin please generously open your WALLET this is easyer fur me

+1 on the complaint of cell phone users, and punks with rap @ level 15 on the car audio....
I sit in my house and hear them (punks) pass by on the road....
While riding, we all deal with idiots who refuse to pull over to use the cell phone, coz god forbid they should miss a call.....
pipes loud..?...I think it xounds amazing, myself....but if it grabs an ignorant cell phone users attention, who otherwise is too arrogant to drive with others in mind, that's another life spared...and hopefully they are loud enuff to capture the attention of the punk with the thumpin rap in his honda.....

Personally, whilst my SE's are kinda loud, I don't really care to be behind a set of full straight pipes - they ARE obnoxious.
What is worse, is, that those very obnoxious bikes are what causes John Q. Public to complain enough to get noise laws passed and next thing ya know, there we are on the side of the road with disco lights.
I can understand wanting to be Billy Badass and feel all outlaw and stuff, but realistically, you're pissing in your own bed.
