Odds are, the gas that is in the hose at the gas station is not the gas that you want. That part is technically correct. This video explains why it really does not matter to most of us. Not enough gas in the hose to make a difference, and has a neglibile effect on octane dilution. The math checks out.

I actually thought that the amount of fuel in the hose was more than what the video mentioned.

I have friends that will wiggle the bike, put in a little more, wiggle, a little more. I have done this to see how much more I am actually getting into the "6 gallon" tanks on my 2019 FLHTP. The added .15 gallons is simply not worth the time and effort.
I already knew about the remaining fuel in the hose.
I already knew about the remaining fuel in the hose.
Funny thing about my bike: After my low fuel light comes, I get a display that comes on showing the miles that remain. After the miles dwindle down the zero the display shows "Lo". I fill up, with 5 US gallons. Hmm.... Guess I have another gallon in there.
I guess trying to put every once that you can fit in the tank is pointless with a gallon still in the tank when my display is showing "Lo".
I would be better served to keep a gal of gas in the saddle bag.

You know, I’ve got bigger issues to worry about. How much gas is in the hose has not and will not be one of them. That said, when I fill up my 5 gallon plastic gas can for chainsaw, lawn mower, rotor tiller, generator and tractor, I use premium unleaded and put 1/2 gallon in the truck before filling the can. Just do, you can’t talk me out of it. But the bike, I just push premium and pour.
