I like being able to hold the cutting edge angle consistently while sharpening. And quickly.

Tim, I bought the belt sander version that you recommended. It seems to get a rough edge pretty quickly but it felt like I needed to hit the oil stone afterwards just to clean things up really nice. It did what it was supposed to do, put an edge on some knives that had not been sharpened in a very long time. Once they were run over the stone a few times, they were plenty sharp.
