Yup, never heard what happened there!

I wonder how many home explosions are due to sloppy gas line installation. I pulled some ceiling down over 20 years ago, nothing to do with the gas line, and found the furnace gas line had a loop jammed between a heat/ac duct and a couple floor joists (large loop). A couple spots were wearing against the duct and one flat spot was nearly 1/4" wide and close to paper thin, it probably wouldn't have lasted this long if I hadn't unintentionally found that. I replaced the whole gas line in the house, and it doesn't rub anywhere now. This house was like fixing an old Harley, take something apart and find more problems.

Few years ago a food truck's propane tank(s?) blew in the owner's driveway, nearly destroyed his house and did heavy damage to some neighbors. Truck was totaled, of course. 3 miles from me and it still rattled the house and I could feel it.

I got a story for ya. In the neighborhood I grew up, they used to run a road grader down the alley behind the businesses on the main drag. One day the grader hooked the natural gas pipe that fed a furniture store. The gas leaked into the building all night. The furnace pilot was on a timer and in the morning when it lit , that’s all she wrote. The building ( and it was a large one ) exploded . It shook the entire neighborhood, we lived two blocks away. My parents immediately thought it was our house ( because I used to clean parts with gasoline) from time to time in the basement) .

I moved into an apartment in Triangle, VA, had been base housing at one time. The apartments had been remodeled. I went to use the stove, no gas. OK, no biggie, went outside, the meter was turned off. Grabbed a wrench and turned it on.

Went back inside, there was this obnoxious sound. And smell. Someone had set the oven and range in place, but, well,

a short sprint later, I had the gas turned off. I then proceeded to attach the gas line. To the stove.

Whew...

The house I grew up in had gas lamps on the walls , they gave off a eerie blue glow.

Coffee has been consumed, time for the elliptical
