TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge part XIV.
I haven't been able to get a "real" ride in since, late October, I believe it was? Maybe early November. Been so Fing busy ever since. Plus its cold and wintery and depressing.
Saw 2 more houses last night. They both kinda sucked, one significantly more than the other. Gab hasn't been able to let go of a townhouse we saw. A townhouse and/or HOA would be the death of me. We're at such opposite ends of the spectrum on what we want, so it's been fun.
In other news I convinced her to come meet the dog I want on Sunday.

I'm trying. Space is really limited in our house now but since we're actively looking for a bigger place, I figure its a short term inconvenience. If this dog wasn't a perfect fit for us and what I'm wanting to do with her, I'd have no problem waiting. The woman who bred this litter also runs the club that I've been hanging out at and says that out of everybody who's expressed interest in her, I am her top choice. I'm trying to be really careful with the dog I get and who I get it from, and not rush to the first available. Everything I've been reading and researching as to how to pick the righter breeder and right dog matches up perfectly with this woman and her dogs.

With that in mind, we listed our "needs". I needed a house with 3 car garage minimum. Cheryl understood that. She needed a house that had enough style to be proud of, lots of closet space, and a great kitchen. We both wanted to be out of the city and have a large lot or at least a green space behind us.
In the end we ended up with a Modern Farmhouse built in 2020, with a 4 car garage, lots of closets, great kitchen, and a green space, all located out of town. It took a while to find it, and it cost more than we ever dreamed it would, but we're both happy with it. Which is the important part.

Morning Brian! That's often the tug of war we married guys get into. Cheryl and I have purchased 2 homes and each time we had to be mindful of what the other wants. But at no point do either of us expect the other to give in to our choices. The rule for us is - If only one of us likes it, we pass. If we both like it, we buy. Simple enough, but it's hard to find that situation that works for everyone. Ultimately it comes down to compromise.

I basically need a garage, a yard, and no HOAs. Other than that, I don't really care.
Now if only I can figure out what to do with those sponges in the kitchen sink. Any pointers?

Oh, and the deciding factor on the house described above was that it had a perfect "dog lair" under the stairs and a dog wash in the garage.
If I ever have to sleep in the doghouse, at least it has plenty of room.

Brian, 5 years ago we built, for all intents and purposes, our last home. Our home prior to this was just too large at 3650 sq. ft and we didn’t even go upstairs except to clean. We lived right on top of neighbors and we really wanted some space.
Downsized to an acre lot with a pool and a much more manageable footprint. We have not looked back since!

Thats a bad *** dog lair!
But yeah definitely not for everybody and not all Mals are created equal. This one in particular is really well balanced, loves to be involved with the family, social with strangers, dogs, and kids, with a strong drive for work. The mom is the same way and a very accomplished dog.
For example she has another Mal she kept back from the litter who has a different personality and one that wouldn't suit us as well. The breeder outright told me that she wouldn't sell her to me, which I am fine with and appreciate the honesty.

We did the renovation thing in the house we're in now and don't want to go through that again. Hoping to find something turn key.
