It was far better than I expected actually, I don't love international travel, and was pretty skeptical when Gab said she wanted to go to Africa, but it turned out to be really awesome & special. Once in a lifetime experience for sure.

Only was genuinely concerned for our safety once... crossing the border from Tanzania to Kenya via bus... I was pretty sure we were going to get rolled by locals. We made it to the airstrip uneventfully though, just some minor shakedowns at the border.

I didn't care much for Zanzibar though. We did 3 nights there at the end of the trip. Our transportation from the airport got screwed up somehow, so we were stranded for a couple hours at the airport. Then our taxi got shook down by a cop there too. By that time I was Africa'd out and ready to come home anyway, so my patience was about gone.

The safari part was insane. Pics won't ever do it justice - main parts we did being The Ngorongoro Crater, Sergentti, and Masai Mara. Got to see the Great Migration. One of the camps we were in was in the middle of a huge pride of lions' territory. They are LOUD at night and all around us.

Gab was dying to visit a local village of the Masai tribe, which is probably what you picture when you think of tribal Africans. They maintain the most of the old traditional way of living compared to the other tribes. I didn't really want to go, I felt weird visiting them like they are some sort of zoo exhibit.... but of course she didn't want to join in on the dancing and stuff they do for you, so guess who got to do that, lol.

There are now videos out there of me and the tribesman doing warrior dances.
Sounds like you had a great time! Reminds me of a Nat Geo magazine.
