TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge part XIV.

Evening, guys.
Your bike is a '20 isn't it?
If so, I see a lot of talk about the 22xe being very good.
Pick your poison for exhaust.
If a '20, I'm not sure the pump and plate are necessary, the updates after the early M8s should be good enough.
For lifters, go to WFOLarry.
The only thing I'm sure enough in all of the above is the lifters, no first hand experience with the M8.
ETA: Look into a stock sized intake manifold, I think 64MM is too big for a Stage II. Could be wrong.

Let’s talk motorcycles for a minute Woods
. I getting my mind and pocketbook ready to do a little upgrade on my bike. To be more precise, a “ stage two “ build. I have spent countless hours researching my options and have a list of decisions yet to make. Understand I will be settled with my choices before I proceed. Some of the variables will seem minor to most but they are still important enough to me to get them right.
1) choice of cam. I’ve narrowed it down to two ( to achieve the desired performance change) . Star racing 30/30 or Woods 22xe
vary close in specs with the 30/30 having a slightly higher lift .485 vs .470
2) larger throttle body & intake manifold. Stock is 55mm and plastic, SE 64mm is cast aluminum and should probably get a little bigger injector
3) head pipe, the cat is going away for sure but a cheap one is $500 a little better one is $800 ( 304 stainless) and the top shelf is $1395 also 304 stainless
4) oil pump and cam plate support is the easy one, SE @ $775. and a good performer.
5) lifters all cost about the same, but most are made using needle bearings, Woods has new design that uses a one piece roller.
that is flip of the coin.
I am probably going to have it done for me for three reasons ( though I’m capable of doing the work myself) .
1) special tools I need and would have to purchase and a dyno tune that I would have to pay for anyway ( to maximize results)
2) time
3) I get a warranty from either builder
Ok Woods, what say you![Icon Duck](https://www.hdforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_duck.gif)

Greg, my bike is a 2019 , built in May 2019, the last version of the m8 pump didn’t start until fall of 2019 so I don’t know if I have it or not. Either way the SE is billet aluminum with bronze bushings and increased flow.
I’ve looked at dyno numbers with and without the 64mm and they are close with the edge going to the larger. I would be getting rid of the plastic one and it I do a 128cid down the road I’m set.

Evening gents. Well, we never made it to the Devil's Punchbowl. Turns out the "Civil War" is happening between Oregon and Oregon State, so I-5 was so backed up we said screw it and just poked around McMinnville instead. On the plus side I was able to score some HF 6 ton jack stands from the McMinnville HF for a good savings. And no sales tax in OR, which is a bonus.

Good evening all. We had a nice dinner at Glory Days Grill. Now it is Very Happy Hour here at the humble abode. Good luck on the Stage 2 build Chuck. I did the comparable build to my Indian. De-catted, cam, pipes and programmed accordingly. It runs strong and smooth. That M8 should be very impressive. I am yet to own one but I am young still. I would like very much to acquire a M8 Road King and do a stage 2 on it. My old Evo was hopped up and it ran like a scalded ape from 0 to 100 then it ran out of gear. It was not a touring bike.
Looks like Texas fans are glued in tonight. I think I will watch as well. Uh-oh picked off by Texas as I type.
Tomorrow I hit the music stores then we ride.

Star Racing fo sho. I would definitely have faith in any of their cams in any application. They are also making billet compensators for $399. If it was me I would add that to your list.
One thing I disagree with is the SE oil pump. I would be installing an S&S oil pump all the way.
