I had an ex BIL that who was an astounding guitar player. The guy could listen to any song once and duplicate it right down to tuning and intonation. He said he had "perfect pitch" which wasn't a brag - just stating fact. When I had aspirations of upping my guitar game he would help me out, but it was like an astronaut teaching a kid to fold a paper airplane.

Anyway, he was a Strat fan. He had a few of them, his favorite being a right handed 67 that he strung like Hendrix and played upside down. When I asked him what I should buy, he said Telecaster, which surprised me. His reasoning was that out of 100 Strats, maybe 10 were good. But out of 100 Teles, 90 were good. So I bought a nice American rosewood fretboard tobacco sunburst Tele. And still sucked.

I also used to live less than 10 miles from Les Paul. He was a legend in the area of course.

The telecaster is a great blues guitar. Fender necks just don't feel right to me. Great guitars, but not for me

Yup.......two kinds of guitar players - Fender or Gibson. There's a reason for that. (yeah, yeah.....I know there are others, but you get what I mean)

That said, I always wanted to try a Rickenbacker.

Well I had my meeting with the Service Officer at the Legion Headquarters. She pretty much put me at ease. I am pretty much the
"mouthpiece" for Vets to see and get some direction. I would do no more than provide her contact info so she can help the Vet. She is SO for the county area and we would be, more than likely, the guys who would "find" the Vet who needs help. She said I could call or stop in with any questions or issues I might find. That makes me feel better now.... I have contact to send Vets to for help.
And all you Vietnam Vets who do not have current issues, be aware that there is help out there for you. There are a number of issues the VA can work with you.
My public service announcement for you.

That Cort is a purty one. Not familiar with that brand, no idea how good they are. Wouldn't matter, I wouldn't be good enough for it to sound decent anyway. Guitars are varying levels of awkward for me. That's why I got a cheap Chinese Firefly LP guitar, picked out a maroon and black one with gold trim, so at least it looks better than it is sitting in a corner.

I can relate there, Bob. #2 son is a fairly accomplished player and doing some local gigs with a group lately for fun. He's been trying to teach me and I don't know if it's going to fly. It's either my old fingers, or I'm just not that good. LOL
He's giving me a really nice setup to practice on and we're going to try again this winter.
