Here’s the rub Mick, I took the truck to the dealer sometime ago for a different issue and “Specifically told the service writer, do not do the recall “ knowing the problem it would pose in the future if I was to ever require a wheel alignment. When I picked up the truck, sure enough they had done it anyway . I remind them of this every time we speak, to which they always reply “ au shucks we’re sorry “

Chuck, you can zip cut the weld. You can do that at home.
All they did was weld the lock nut to the threaded body, not to the threads.
No need to buy a new one.
