Jaxen is meeting with a Marine Corp recruiter on Thursday to take the asvab early. I wonder how he will score. Lord knows we aren't saving up for his college.

His first choice is a sports scholarship. Second is either a trade school or uncle Sam pays for school.

 

I didn't save a dime for my kids college because we were so broke raising a family on an electrician apprenticeship wage. But when my kids did go to college I was able to pay half the tuition. I guess we could have floated the full amount, but I wanted them to earn part of it. No one paid a dime towards my college tuition but me. Of course I had student loans until I was damn near 40.

I like Mick's idea - full ride football (or volleyball - safer) scholarship. Regardless, I would check in with all the branches and see who has the best offer. In the Marines a kid as big as Jaxen will end up carrying the M240. My old man (Marine) was big like that, and carried the BAR among other things. Oddly enough, his favorite was the Thompson .45.

And the trades treated me well. All the men in my family were in one trade or another.

 

We do have a friend that went to the navel academy and became a team guy and another one who went to Annapolis to fly fighter jets. A little early take anything seriously yet. He might discover the joys of drugs, wemen, and fast cars.
