Then there’s the divorce part which seemed to get it all started add alcohol and there ya go. Instant liberal raid.

Beginning to think I might have to learn to airbrush to get the color and shading I want. Not giving up yet, just finding ways that don't work

Have you ever tried these? I painted many guitars utilizing these babies. You can get them at Home Depot or similar stores, Amazon too probably. I found they do a much better than job than a rattle can. A nice light mist. I would prime first, then start layering on coats. I would buff with the finest steel wool I could find between coats. The first couple of buff outs looks like you are removing all the paint, then it starts to build nicely. After about 5-7 coats it really pops. Clear coat it and voile!

The heat and humidity aren't helping, but on a properly prepared surface and better sandpaper and you get the idea
