Of the half a dozen times we have gone, we have been stopped about half. One time we reserved and were allowed through. I think it's borderline illegal, but that's the PNW for you - govt doing whatever they want.
Sounds borderline illegal to me too, but as you said, the PNW.

Now you got me looking through pics from that trip, great memories. Not a bad playground to have as a backyard!

We stayed in Portland for a couple of nights, then did a couple more nights up in Dundee, somewhere in their wine country. That was awesome.

I may or may not have mentioned it, but if you like OR wine, you really have to check out Martin Woods. I like my wine but normally drink CA Cabs. The one and only "wine club" I belong to is Martin Woods, we did a wine tour out there and really liked the guy and his operation. So now I get 12 bottles mailed to me in the spring and 12 in the fall... nice guy, we probably chat once a year for a few minutes. Not sure what he's doing for winery tours these days but I know he opened a tasting room somewhere.

This was actually at the Martin Woods place 4 years ago

The view from our place in Dundee.

Some barrel tasting we did also on a wine tour, couldn't tell you which winery. Possibly Anderson Family, thats the only thing I can figure based on the other pics in my phone

Welp.... just took a mid-day ride to check temps with my new HF laser thermometer. Concerned about excess heat with the fangs put back on. Temps were around the 290° mark at the end of half hour ride in low to mid 80's temps. That makes me feel a bit better about having the fangs back on. Not sure how far over 300 is safe. My right leg got pretty warm, which I guess is somewhat normal. I will keep the thermometer handy for another ride later on.... maybe get some highway miles in.

Nice pics BT! Living in the heart of wine country here. We have over 300 wineries in the county. Some pretty good stuff IMO. As good if not better than Napa valley wines here in Paso Robles.

I have seen the pics you've put up recently, looks like you are in some really beautiful country.

We did Napa & Sonoma for her 30th - great time and great wineries but I think if we go back, we'd stay elsewhere and maybe dip down into Napa for a day to hit our favorites. Caldwell and O'Shaugnessy come to mind.

Napa was cool and all but I think it's one of those "one and done" type things - kind of like Sturgis, I think if I go back, it would be outside of the rally and I would stay in another area of the hills. I'm sure the other areas of CA wine country are more my speed & type of people

You passed close to where I spent much of 1978, Pasco, WA, across the river from Kennewick. I've done part of that route, scenic and nice roads, at least back then. Southwest WA looked like the brown in your photos the summer I was there, no rain for weeks, maybe months. Rained almost every day in winter, though.

I drove that for maybe 100 miles out of Portland back when it was the only highway there. One of those drives where you want to stop often and take in the view. It would be a shame to take a motorcycle on the newer 4 lane, you'd miss some good riding. Can have high winds in spots though, something to watch out for. Had hopes of doing it as far as Kennewick, WA on a bike, but never got to.
