Agreed. But Harleys respond very well to reduced back pressure. It's a very primitive ICE by current standards (not that there's anything wrong with that - all my bikes fall into that category). You increase gas/air and reduce back pressure, HP goes up. It's one of the few motors that you can run straight pipes and not ruin performance.

Open pipes are good for cheap hp. A properly designed exhaust system will increase hp and torque.

Dynamic charts show the M8 likes more back pressure than not. Removing the cat reduces low end torque. That's where a properly designed exhaust and tune come in.

You got that right. I've played around with it, and it's amazing. I had a D&D Fatcat on my 2011 Ultra with stage 3 107. Bike moved out well, but was too loud for long touring. So I switched to a Supertrapp 2/1. Damned if that didn't just cut the bike off at the knees. I had it re-tuned and it dropped from 96 HP to 82. So in the case of a built Twinkie motor, less back pressure = better HP. Can't speak for M8s.

The other thing - the felt heat went WAY up with the Supertrapp. It melted Cheryl's boot sole. The D&D was way cooler because it was less restrictive.
