TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge part XIV.
So....I have typically had fangs on the front of my bikes for buffeting issues. With this new bike (21 SG) I have noticed a lot of heat from the right side. I removed the cat, removed the fangs, installed DK Custom tank deflectors, raised tank 1-1/2" and mid frame deflector. Our trip out west and back was somewhat brutal on me, my head and vision. Lots of head movement....not buffeting where I was rattled, but definite wind around that affected my vision mostly. So today I put the fangs back on and took a ride. Wind was definitely gone from around my head, and I did notice heat on right side again. I'll leave these on for a while and see how things really go. The heat felt might be in my head, or it could have been from sun shining behind me. I gotta get some rides in with various weather conditions to see if heat is still an issue. Some of these little things really make me think again about how long I might ride. I wish I had these on going out west to see how things went.
Just a rant on my part.....sorry for the boring conversation.....

I forgot, do you have the mini wings under the fairing? I circled them in red

No lowers, and no fairing wings. Although I do have them in the garage. Tried the fairing wings and didn't feel they did much. I do have a set of fabric lowers I use in late fall and early spring to help keep the wind off my legs.
Good evening from Denver! We had rain, hail and traffic to contend with today but we persevered.

As to the heat - lots pf stuff can factor. Do you have a tuner? Slip-ons? Removing the cat removes the restriction (which causes heat) at one spot, but then the next restriction (muffler) gets hotter. I've honestly never seen the percentage in removing the cat. I've actually run my last bike with and without, and I preferred it with.

Agreed. But Harleys respond very well to reduced back pressure. It's a very primitive ICE by current standards (not that there's anything wrong with that - all my bikes fall into that category). You increase gas/air and reduce back pressure, HP goes up. It's one of the few motors that you can run straight pipes and not ruin performance.
We pick them up in Diinosaur, CO/UT tomorrow.
