Been there and have the scars to prove it. We have a pretty significant sunscreen budget.

@Uncle Larry
My wife needs new rear brake pads on her 2016 Explorer at 77k miles. Can I just swap pads out, and not worry too much about the rotors at this point?

The answer is yes. The correct answer is, check the runout and thickness

Yes Stan ... Provided that the rotors aren't "chewed up" ... Get a look on the inside face of the rotor ... Some of those suffered from serious rust pits ... If that the case I'd replace the rotors ... Good Luck
