The single best GPS App I have found to prevent hitting objects in the road is WAZE. It doesn't get everything on the highway, but it really enlightens you just how much **** is left on the road by others.
The craziest thing I have ever seen lost on the road is a riding lawn mower on the I-695 Beltway around Baltimore. How does a person not know they lose a riding mower out the back of their truck?

WAZE is a system for users to report road conditions. Its really helpful out on the road and has alerted me to all kinds of stuff.
