TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge part XIV.
Okay, here is the question. Chili, beans or no beans? Growing up it was always with beans and we even called it Chili Beans. Much later in life through the power of the world wide inner web I learned that some do not put beans in chili. I have even heard that in Texas it is some sort of misdemeanor to be caught putting beans in chili. In my Atkins years I would make chili without beans to avoid the carbs but these days my portion control takes care of the weight issue so I put beans in my chili. Lately I used Goya small red beans and sometimes black beans as well.

Jeff, at my age it occurs to me are there any gastronomic considerations in this decision?
I love beans, but my stomach does not, as some attendees of WS '21 can attest.

Jeff, make it how you like. My wife, through no fault of her own, learned to make “chili” from her mother who would not let anything go to waste (except a nice steak by putting ketchup on it) any way, she puts Ranch Style brand beans and tamales in hers. While not true chili according to the purists, it tastes good, especially with some jalapeño corn bread. I just smile and eat it.
