Knew those had to be PT-6s, the engines are mounted backwards. I was hoping to get a flight in a Chalk airlines Mallard (bigger brother to these Gooses for anyone that didn't know) somewhere in the Caribbean when I retired, but that crash happened first and ended them. Seaplanes always fascinated me. Closest I've come to a water landing was over my boot tops in water inside a helicopter... What do you do there? I was an airline mechanic for about 35 years.
Mike, I get to maintain all of this except the white Goose. We are storing it for the owner for now. Been an aircraft mechanic since 1972. We did a 9 1/2 year restoration on the blue and yellow on. Finished it in 2005 and has about 2200 hrs. on it since. And he lands it in salt water. Never a dull moment in my world.
A turbine Goose would be a fun toy to play with up around the boundary waters in Northern MN. Bet that has power to spare with the PT-6s. If I could have my choice of seaplane, it would be a turbine Catalina with the bubble windows, I've seen a video of one finished inside like a luxury business jet. In the summer, could live in one like that, flying vacation. Would take a big lottery win for one of those.
