TOAK, The Thread of All Knowledge Part XIII
I never laughed so hard as when I saw a guy driving a lifted 4x4 dually crew cab diesel pickup with a black arrow pointing to his tail pipe with the words “Prius Repellent “ painted on the fender
Evening gents!
Now hold on there mister! It's NOT my Prius. It's the kid's. I drive a manly Honda Insight.
Evenin', Bob.....It's the perception to other people. Quick test : 1. Is it parked in your driveway? 2. Is it parked in your driveway overnight? 3. Does the owner live in your house? Answer YES to any 2 questions.....It's perceived as YOUR Prius...(learned that from the impeachment hearings)

Damn Al......your logic is inescapable. BUT - I live on a dead end street and everyone knows me, so the perception is intact.
In other news, finished the ceiling today. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. When you remodel you learn how not square your house is.
Tomorrow they sand the wood floors. Monday the finish them. Friday carpet the office. We are on a roll.

Bob, that looks great! Try remodeling in a 120yr old house that was well built when new. My house was built by a well to do guy who was a builder, contractor, owned a lumber yard and mill. he built it for himself.
Al's Rule of old house remodeling : Anytime you build something straight , level or plumb...you're screwed!

I bought a Victorian built in1886 a while back and did a bunch of work on it. Oddly enough it was built by the local lumber guy too. I bought it from his second wife, who was much younger than him. In effect I bought it from the origiginal owner. The house was remarkably well preserved, but it needed numerous updates. The biggest problem was the roof which was two layers over the original cedar shake. Man......what a nightmare. It was the "bat house" because there were so many points of entry for them. I would wake up damn near every morning at 3AM with a friggin bat flying around the room. Sold that and vowed to never buy a house built prior to the 60s again. Just too much "character".
All but one. That one will require dynamite.

Bob, other than the kitchen and the basement, I haven't redone any other remodeling in the inside of the house. It would be a sin to touch all the chestnut wood work and stained glass windows...irreplaceable. In the kitchen, i made all my own moldings similar to the rest of the house only in poplar and painted. Despite what I took on this summer, i'm getting too old for that now.
